Finding the Right Home Caregivers for Every Patient

BHRAGS Home Care Corp. provides a wide range of caregiving services for New
Yorkers of all ages depending on their medical and non-medical needs. This includes
home health care, private home care, workers’ compensation support, Nursing Home
Transition and Diversion/Traumatic Brain Injuries (NHTD/TBI) waiver programs, and
pediatric home care.
All of our home caregivers are experienced, skilled, and ready to provide the
individualized support patients need, but there’s another element we must consider: is
this caregiver the right fit for you and your family? Do they show cultural sensitivity and
understand your cultural values, norms, and customs?
These questions are critical for establishing the meaningful and enduring connection
between caregiver and patient that sets BHRAGS apart.
Meet Ms. Sarah Barrington, Former Principal and BHRAGS Patient
BHRAGS has supported Ms. Sarah Barrington, a home health care patient who suffered
a fall, since 2023. A former principal at Epiphany Lutheran in Brooklyn, she turned to
BHRAGS to get the care she needed after a recommendation from a family member.
The left side of Ms. Barrington’s body was impaired by the fall, so her lifestyle had to
slow down. While she’s not fully homebound, it is difficult for her to independently
manage activities of daily life (ADLs) as well as other medical and non-medical home
care needs. Her caregiver helps her with cleaning up, moving safely around her home,
bathing, running errands, managing transport to and from doctor’s appointments, and
providing companionship.
Ms. Barrington also shared that her caregiver is “from Guyana, just like me!” Our
caregivers represent the diversity of New York City, creating an environment that fosters
cultural sensitivity and stronger relationships with our patients. Understanding and
respecting diversity helps avoid misunderstandings and ensures caregivers can support
their patients’ needs in a culturally appropriate manner. Our caregivers take each
patient’s dietary needs, religious practices, family structures, and other day-to-day
considerations into account to improve the quality of life of every BHRAGS patient.
Ms. Barrington complimented everyone in the organization because they do an
“excellent job for people who are older and impaired.” She describes BHRAGS as
“excellent, friendly, trustworthy, and caring.” This is the level of care we strive to provide
to all of our patients.
